The Robert E. Murray Innovation Award is presented by the Society for Mining, Metallurgy & Exploration (SME) to recognize outstanding contributions to innovation in the mining industry. The award reflects SME's commitment to advancing the application of new ideas, methods, and technologies across the resource sector.
George Hemingway's keynote explored the SITA framework, Stratalis's structured approach to managing the uncertainty inherent in large-scale technology and operating model transformation programs. The presentation drew on the firm's work with leading global mining companies to argue that the organizations most likely to succeed in transformation are those that explicitly acknowledge and manage the uncertainties involved, rather than treating them as problems to be solved before transformation begins.
